Maya Rally: The ‘Rolling Museum of motorcars’ prepares its arrival

Pilots and co-pilots of 110 historic cars will tour scenarios full of cultural and natural wealth in Yucatan and Quintana Roo.

The sixth edition of the Mayan Rally will bring together participants from 13 countries in Yucatan and Quintana Rio. They will be pilots and co-drivers of historic cars from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, the United States and Spain. Also from Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Holland, Israel and, of course, Mexico.

These legendary machines will travel more than 1,200 kilometers to get into the cultural, historical, heritage and natural wealth of Yucatan and Quintana Roo. The departure flag will be held on May 17 in Uxmal, one of the most important archaeological sites of the Mayan civilization. The last stage of the competition, meanwhile, will be held from May 24 to 26 in Chetumal.

Thus, the “museum of ancient motorsport” will exhibit the power and aesthetics of 110 vehicles. It will include jewelry from Porsche, Rolls Royce, Mercedes Benz, Audi, Packard, MG, Alfa Romeo, Oldsmodile, Jaguar, Cadillac, Austin Healy, Pontiac, Renault, Dodge, Plymouth, Buick, Lincoln, Chevrolet, VW and Ford models T.

The cars according to the year of manufacture will be registered in four categories. From 1900 to 1931, from 1932 to 1949, from 1950 to 1964 and from 1965 to 1975. The list includes a Ford Model ‘A’ black color, four luxury sedan doors of 1929. Which, to participate, made from Argentina a journey of more than 9 thousand kilometers and almost 2 months with its owner at the wheel: Christian Delaporte.

Mexico will be represented by classic motorsport professionals from 16 states of the national territory. Among them Rubén Fangio, son of former Formula 1 driver Juan Manuel Fangio.

The Mexico Maya Rally is endorsed by the International Antique Vehicles Federation (FIVA), the Vintage National Commission, the Porsche Club Mexico and other specialized organizations. In 2018 he received the “Best Preserved Vehicule Awards by FIVA” as one of the 10 best regularity competition events of old and classic cars.

An encounter with cause

As part of the social responsibility program of the Mexico Maya Rally, 100 wheelchairs will be delivered. This donation will be possible thanks to the support of the Telmex Foundation. For its part, the company Raconli Group, distributor of watches Franck Muller made a special design for the sixth edition of the event. The sale of these collectibles will be donated to children with down syndrome.

The 2019 edition of this sports fair awaits the arrival of 400 spectators. It should be noted that over the years the event has left Yucatan an economic income of 118 million pesos, according to the local government.
