In a statement, the commission said that in coordination with the state health authorities and the  National Network of Public Health Laboratories  made the sampling of seawater on the beaches of 17 coastal states, during the weeks leading up to the current holiday period , in order to obtain the geometric mean and generate a statistical value that allows to indicate whether a beach represents a risk to health.

He explained that based on the guidelines of the World Health Organization ( WHO ), the level that the Ministry of Health and Semarnat use to establish that a beach implies a health risk, is 200 Enterococci in 100 milliliters of water.

“This revision task is part of the Playas Limpias Program and allowed the monitoring of Enterococcus faecalis bacteria to assess the sanitary conditions of sea water, since it is very resistant to adverse conditions and due to its characteristics can develop in an environment with 6.5 percent of sodium chloride, pH of 9.6 and between 10 ° and 45 ° Celsius “.
