Three Central American migrants who entered Mexico through the southern border were run over while walking on the federal highway to Tapachula, in Chiapas.

The victims, two Honduran women and one Salvadoran man, suffered serious injuries and were taken to the General Hospital of that city, near the border with Guatemala. The driver of the vehicle managed to escape from the scene of the accident.

According to the Reforma newspaper , the migrants were part of a group of 200 people who crossed illegally through the Rodolfo Robles International Bridge and whose final goal is to reach US soil to seek asylum.

The authorities confirmed that the National Migration Institute had informed the migrants that the regularization proceedings had been completed, which responds to an action by the Mexican government that aims to reduce the number of visas for humanitarian reasons.

“This procedure will be carried out in a limited way to people whose situation merits receiving the Visitor Card for Humanitarian Reasons (TVRH). Women, girls and boys, as well as people over 65 will have priority, “the National Institute of Migration (INM) reported on Sunday in a statement.
