After some media revealed an unexpected meeting between President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, on Wednesday the president confirmed the appointment and explained that this took place in the private home of a friend in common: Bernardo Gómez.

From the National Palace at the morning conference, AMLO said he spoke with Trump’s adviser on cooperation, development and promotion of investment to boost growth.

We were having dinner until 10 or 11 at night (…) basically we addressed the issue of development cooperation, which we could sign a bilateral agreement to guarantee investments in Central America and the country of the order of 10 billion dollars for that there are jobs, that there is work and that migration is optional, not forced by the lack of opportunities or violence.

On the versions of the meeting that spoke of the famous wall of US President Donald Trump, AMLO ruled out that the issue has been addressed because employment will be promoted to reduce migrant displacement.

No, (the wall) is not on the agenda, we are basically talking about addressing the causes and we have the conviction that with the programs that are being implemented in our country the migration of Mexicans will be zero, they will not need Mexicans going to work in the United States because there will be work, we are already creating jobs in the country.

Who accompanied AMLO?
The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard and the business manager of the US Embassy, John Creamer.
