The National Guard, a project promoted by the president of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, was approved by all the State Congresses and that of Mexico City. The final step for the National Guard to become a reality is the ratification of the Mexican president.
The Yucatan Congress approved on Wednesday the creation of the National Guard, with which all 32 local congresses have endorsed the constitutional reform that establishes the conformation of this institution proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to fight insecurity.
In this way, it is outlined that in the session of the Chamber of Deputies of this Thursday the declaration of constitutionality will be made with the endorsement of all the state legislatures. The Senate will have to do the same. Once this has happened, the document will pass to the head of the Executive Power to be promulgated .
The announcement was made by the president of the Senate, Martí Batres, who on Twitter wrote: “The constitutional reform on matters of National Guard in the 32 Local Congresses of the states and in Mexico City has already been approved.”
The coordinator of the senators of Morena, Ricardo Monreal, stressed that, once the corresponding decree enters into force, there will be a deadline to approve, in terms of between 60 and 90 days, the four secondary laws that will make the National Guard viable. .
López Obrador proposed the creation of this body at the end of last year. The National Guard will have a civilian command and military discipline and, according to the government, it will be a key element in achieving the “pacification” of Mexico and curbing the high levels of violence.
