wo children from Eastern Kentucky are safe after authorities say their father, mother and the mother’s boyfriend kidnapped the children and took them to Mexico.

Officials with the Vanceburg Police Department in Lewis County said Victor Carrington, his estranged wife Kristy Carrington and her boyfriend Jay Thompson picked up the kids after a birthday party on Feb. 3, according to WSAZ.

Police said neither parent is allowed to have any contact with the children, WSAZ reported.

At the time of the kidnapping, Victor Carrington had been out on bond awaiting sentencing for several counts of sexual abuse of a minor, online court records show.

The victim was a friend of the family, according to WSAZ.

A relative who has custody of the kids called police the afternoon of Feb. 4. Within about two days of police being notified, the suspects’ phones were pinging in Laredo, Texas, and in Mexico, WSAZ reported.

Kristy Carrington, 30, and Thompson, 29, were arrested Feb. 12 while they tried to re-enter the United States in a car. Victor Carrington, 39, turned himself in Feb. 16 as he was trying to cross back into the U.S. on foot with the children.

The two children are safe and now in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Investigators are not sure why the group went to Texas or Mexico. None of the adults have any apparent connections to the area, WSAZ reported.
