The governor of the state held meetings with executives of Sunwing and West Jet airlines.

Toronto Canada. In the framework of the promotional visit he made in Toronto , Canada, Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel held productive meetings with executives of the Sunwing and West Jet airlines , to propose that they increase their flights to Mazatlan, the only destination in Mexico that is in process of transformation with new tourist attractions and that, in addition, registers new investments of hotels of international prestige.

Previously, the state president attended the inauguration of Mexico Mining Day , an event organized by the Ministry of Economy of the Government of the Republic , within the framework of the DPAC 2019, which is the International Mining Convention called ( Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada , by its abbreviations in English), which was inaugurated by the Secretary of Economy of Mexico, Graciela Márquez Colín.

After the ceremony, Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel, accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism, Oscar Pérez Barros, and the hotel entrepreneur of Mazatlan, Carlos Berdegué Sacristán, visited the headquarters of Sunwing, where he was received by Andrew Dawson, Chief Operating Officer and by Jennifer Lucas, Product Manager Tour Operations, and Melania Marín, Partner Marketing Specialist Tour Operations.

The reason for the visit was to confirm the interest of Sinaloa to continue flying to Mazatlan, as Sunwing currently maintains flights from eight cities, during the Canadian winter season from October to May, with an average of 30 thousand passengers.

Sunwing began its flights to Mazatlan eight years ago and following the success of the Tianguis Turístico 2018, it increased its interest in this destination, with an itinerary that includes the cities of Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg and Toronto. To these cities will be added from this year Otawa, as a sign of the confidence in the port of Sinaloa.

For this reason, Ordaz Coppel proposed that two more flights be increased, due to the new tourism and hotel investments that are made in the port, since currently no destination in all of Mexico is being transformed as Mazatlan.

In this regard, informed the directors of the new projects, such as the construction of a new aquarium, which will be the largest in Latin America, the attraction that will be the Central Park, and the already completed renovations of the Historic Center and the Malecón. In addition, pointed out that Mazatlan is listed as one of the safest destinations in the country.

For his part, Andrew Dawson acknowledged Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel for everything they have invested to improve the fate of Mazatlan, which has resulted in their flights have a constant occupation of 90 percent; therefore, they will add Otawa in their itinerary as of this year.

He recalled that in 2018 Sunwing opened the flight from Montreal, with great success as a result of the Tourism Tianguis held last year in Mazatlan.

Later, Quirino Ordaz led a meeting with Dave Cecco, vice president of West Jet Vacation, who, given the governor’s proposal to strengthen the relationship with this company and Mazatlan, in addition to the success of the flight from Calgary to the port, announced that they will keep it all year from this 2019 and not only from October to May as they have been managing it.

The airlines showed great willingness to keep Mazatlan within their destinations and continue to strengthen their growth plans.
