American Airlines announced that as of Friday, March 1, the company will no longer accept cash for transactions carried out at the International Airports of Monterrey, Mérida, Oaxaca, Zacatecas, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mazatlan, Manzanillo, Chihuahua, Torreón and Morelia.

These air terminals are added to the measure taken by the airline, as from August 20, the company no longer performs cash transactions at the Cancun International Airport, in the state of Quintana Roo. ( American Airlines will only accept credit or debit card payments at the Cancun airport ).

In a statement, the US airline explained that passengers must use credit or debit cards to perform any transaction at these airports, including the purchase of tickets or the payment of checked baggage.

“American is in a phase of transition at the global level so that in each of the airports where we operate, transactions are made only with credit or debit cards, using more technological and secure resources, allowing our team to help customers with a faster and more efficiently, “said the director of the airline in Mexico and Canada, José María Giraldo.

He added that moving away from cash transactions also “reduces the complexity of work for our agents, who will no longer have to worry about managing money, finding the exact change or setting a cash box at the end of the day.”

The ten airports in Mexico are added to the more than 70 international destinations in which American no longer carries out transactions in cash, he said. ( American Airlines considers Mexico its first non-US market).
