President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Tuesday that endorses the continuity of the Grand Prix of Mexico Formula 1, it does not involve the expenditure of public resources.

“If it does not involve money, I endorse, I agree (with the celebration of the Grand Prize). The issue is whether we have (the Government) to contribute. I’m a bit of a fool in these cases, “he said.

Questioned about the February 28 deadline for the federal administration to renew the contract with the automobile series, the president pointed out that the money that was used to finance this type of sporting events is compromised for the construction of the Mayan Train.

“I do not know how the F1 contracts are. If they are not signed, we will not be able to because in some cases these events were financed by the Tourism Promotion Fund and that fund is already committed to the construction of the Mayan Train, “he said.

Lopez Obrador added that the promotion of sport will continue, “but with austerity, without excesses or waste.”

Recall that the contract, signed by the federal administration and the previous Mexico City, expires this year with an option for a renewal.

Regarding Formula 1, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, who in January said that the serial will no longer have resources for its realization in Mexico, because the funding will be used for the construction of the Mayan train.
