President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reiterated his criticism of the ex-presidents who have joined the boards of directors of private companies at the end of their six-year terms, and after Felipe Calderón reacted yesterday, the current president also pointed to Ernesto Zedillo.

The head of the Executive insisted that these practices must end, because they are not ethical.

When questioned about Felipe Calderón’s defense of himself for having participated in the Avangrid electricity company, López Obrador ruled out discussing with the former president and indicated that he did not say his comment yesterday only for himself, but also for Ernesto Zedillo.

“Zedillo promotes the privatization of the railways and ends his term and goes to work as an advisor to one of the companies that benefited from the privatization of the national railways. Banks are rescued with Fobaproa and also works in one of the rescued banks, “he said.

After discarding that it is not a personal matter, the president acknowledged that this practice is legal, but should not be, since a president has all the strategic information of the country. “So, if it’s not illegal it’s immoral,” he warned.

In the same sense, he accused that there have been Secretaries of Energy who then go to work for private energy companies.

“Of course there are conflicts of interest, that can not be allowed,” he said.
