The most common names in the country for pets are Luna, Lola and Maia, highlights a DogHero study.

Dogs without defined race, better known as mestizos, are the favorites of people in Mexico City, followed by chihuahua and schnauzer, revealed a study by DogHero.

The dog services company reported in a statement that the above according to the Canine Census 2019, a survey in which the data of about 16,000 dogs in the main cities of Mexico were included, in order to know the trends in preferences of pet owners

The study highlighted that in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Puebla, the most significant figures on dog preferences were presented.

Also, the most common names for pets are: Luna, Lola and Maia, in addition to that there is a slightly higher preference for females, with 50.4% of the records.

In the case of the cities of Puebla and Guadalajara, both showed preference for the same breeds of dogs as in the capital of the country, leading first the mestizos, second, Chihuahua and third the Schnauzer.

“Both cities prefer male dogs; Puebla registers a percentage of 55.4% preference; while in Guadalajara there is a 50.3% preference for this sex, “he said.

And the most common names for Guadalajara are, Camila, Jack and Luna; In the case of Puebla, they tend to name their pets with the names Lucca, Capo and Kiara, in order of popularity.

The platform indicated that Monterrey is the only city among the four with the highest participation in the DogHero study, whose preferences include a couple of races different from the general trend.

He stressed that in descending order, the most popular of the royal capital are the Yorkshire, followed by the mestizos, and in the end the pugs.

DogHero stressed that according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), in Mexico, 57 of every 100 households have a pet, and among them, dogs are the favorite animal of people, standing out with 89% preference .

Due to this, Mexico is one of the countries with more dogs in Latin America, making it an attractive market for companies dedicated to the pet industry.
