Is Mexico City’s Canceled International Airport (NAICM) starting to show its impa?

Southwest Airlines plans to drop flight to Benito Juárez Mexico City International Airport by March 2019 in order to reallocate resources to “better opportunities,” the company announced Thursday.

“As we continue to optimize our flight schedules, we announce today our decision to cease operations at Benito Juárez Mexico City International Airport on March 30, 2019,” the company said in a release.

The four other current US airlines serving Mexico City (MEX) will still include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, and United Airlines.

“Southwest is bullish about Mexico City service over a longer term yet is refocusing on other Mexican cities in the nearer term,” spokesman Brad Hawkins said in a statement at the time.

Because of their support, we continue to make investments in the Republic of Mexico with service to Cancun, San Jose del Cabo/Los Cabos, and Puerto Vallarta nonstop from a seasonal peak of 21 U.S. cities.
