Live moment of explosion in Tlahuelilpan, 71 dead and 75 injured

At least 71 people have died and 75 have been injured after the explosion on Friday during theft fuel from pipeline of state oil company Pemex in the Mexican state of Hidalgo, as confirmed by the state governor, Omar Fayad, in his latest report.

The explosion occurred around 7:00 pm (local time) due to the fuel leak. The conduit was used by hundreds of people from nearby municipalities and it is estimated that about a thousand people were in the place to collect fuel, as reported by the local newspaper ‘El Universal’.

The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has lamented the accident and has given instructions to control the fire and attend to the victims.

The president has appeared with the governor in the presentation of the new balance. “I regret very much the serious situation that is suffered in Tlahuelilpan due to the explosion of a pipeline,” the president said through his account on the social network Twitter. “I call on the entire government to provide assistance to the people on the site,” he said.

Pemex has reported that specialized personnel are in the place of the explosion attending the fire together with federal and local authorities. He also pointed out that the fire was caused by the clandestine taking of fuel.
