Each year, the  International Chocolate Awards rewards the best chocolate bars worldwide and this year, Mexican chocolatiers also appeared among the winners in various categories.

Mexico occupies the eleventh place in the production of cocoa worldwide. The states of the Republic that produce the most are YucatanChiapas, Oaxaca, Guerrero, Veracruz, and Tabasco. This last one even has registered with the denomination of origin the Cocoa Grijalva

Next, four Mexican bars that won at the International  Chocolate Awards 2018 in its Americas edition, held in New York on September 17.

The Raffle

It is a chocolate shop in the CDMX that works with cocoa from Chiapas, Tabasco, and Oaxaca. Its chocolate bar “70% Cacao Blanco Jaguar” won silver in the category of chocolate bars of black origin, without flavor. The winning bar comes from young cacao, approximately 5 or 6 years old and is native to Ostuacan, Chiapas.

This chocolate bar comes from Hacienda Cacaotera La Luz, in Comalcalco, Tabasco . It has a history that goes back to the last century, around the 30s, when a German named Otto Wolter – from which the name of the bars they make is revealed – buys the hacienda and is practically one of the first to do the whole process of cocoa, from sowing to processing. They won silver in the category Bars of dark chocolate of origin with its bar “Quetzalli Agua Selva 2T 70%”.

Chocolate Workshop takes cocoa seriously as part of the diet. The cocoa they use is from the Soconuso region, the milling is with stone and the manufacturer is completely handmade. They won bronze in the dark chocolate bars category with their bar ” Consuelo 73% Finca” La Joya “/ Cunduacán / Tabasco” There is an online store, so you have no excuses not to try it.

Kakaw Museum

This is a space dedicated entirely to Mesoamerican cocoa in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas. They were winners of the bronze medal in the category of a dark chocolate bar of origin with a high percentage of cocoa with the tablet “Xocolate Chiapas – Rioja 85%”. This tablet was produced in a Bean to bar- Micro Batch concept, which refers to a completely handmade production and a very small quantity in its batch.
