Senators from the PAN and PRD say that income should have an important increase to guarantee a decent life for Mexican families.
Monterrey, Nuevo León. (Marlen Hernández) – Senators from the National Action Party ( PAN ) and the Party of the Democratic Revolution ( PRD ) presented a proposal to consider a 100 percent increase in the minimum wage nationwide and not just in the border area of the Country, as proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
In such a way that the minimum wage would rise from the current level of 88.36 pesos per day to 176.72 pesos next year.
“We believe that it is time to take the floor to the President of Mexico and take radical actions to guarantee Mexican families a decent standard of living,” said Senators Víctor Fuentes, of the PAN, and Miguel Angel Mancera, of the PRD.
“To make this right a reality, it is necessary to open the public debate with the participation of the business, political, governmental and civil society sectors to solve this citizen demand”, they added.
The proposal proposes working groups in which the National Commission of Minimum Wages, the holders of the 32 federal entities, business chambers, Coneval, and other actors participate for the evaluation of a comprehensive development plan for the whole country.
On December 11, at a press conference, Juan Ignacio Garza Herrera, president of the Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Caintra) of Nuevo Leon, said that the agency is in favor of an increase in the minimum wage.
However, he pointed out that this increase must be gradual and looking for that the perception is in line with the productivity of the workers.
He explained that an abrupt increase and above the equilibrium level would generate inflationary pressures, for which the experts should estimate what would be the appropriate level to avoid increases in the prices of the products.
The president of Caintra pointed out that in Nuevo León, in general, formal workers receive a salary higher than the minimum of 88.36 pesos per day that currently applies.
Data from the IMSS refer that at a national level there are 12 thousand 158 people registered under a minimum wage, that is, 0.6 percent of workers in the formal sector.
While 40.46 percent of the insured associated with a job receives more than one and up to two minimum wages.
The integral plan that would be analyzed in the work tables would also include a decrease in Income Tax (ISR) and Value Added Tax (VAT).
The current Administration contemplates a reduction of 16 to 8 percent in VAT and a reduction to 20 percent in ISR, in 15 municipalities in the country.
