Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico, signed Wednesday at his morning press conference from the National Palace, the reform initiative to “cancel the so-called educational reform, abrogate it, and replace the current order, the current legal framework with a new one which establishes, fundamentally, the right to education, education that is not a privilege, is a right of all Mexicans. Accompanied by the Secretary of Public Education, Esteban Moctezuma, the president of Mexico insisted that education should be free, because the educational plan is that the education provided by the State at the basic level, as established 20 years ago, is not paid. with a modification to Article 3o. of the Constitution.
The reform proposes free education at all school levels and plans to allocate more and more resources “and that has not been rejected, that all young people who want to enter the upper secondary and higher levels, at universities, have the opportunity to study”.
The president considered regrettable that year after year thousands of young people have been rejected “on the pretext that they did not pass the entrance exam, when that is not true (…) is that there was no space, there were no spaces because public universities they had a sufficient budget. ”
López Obrador announced that one hundred new public universities will be built and 300,000 scholarships will be awarded to upper-level students and families with limited economic resources.
He stressed that in this new educational plan an initial agreement was reached with parents of families and teachers and said that no plan can be carried out to improve the quality of education without the support of these two sectors. AMLO promised:
