Notimex.- Mexico is the country in Latin America that has more respectful attitudes to laws and regulations, because, despite the perception of the problem of corruption, people seek that the legal order is applied, said the general director of the consultancy Amital, Fernando Senties.

By disclosing the results of the first Survey of Honesty in Latin America, conducted by that consulting firm on work ethics, the specialist in anti-corruption issues said that 32.36% of the answers gave this justification.

He noted that it is very common that in Mexico and other Latin American countries there is a phenomenon called “occupational fraud”, which refers to the use of occupational time and resources of the company, for enrichment.

He mentioned that in Mexico, 12.48% of the organizations justify the act of bribing, as it is observed as a daily behavior, while Ecuador, with 22.9% of the interview, is the country that most justifies this action.

The consultant said that 33.8% of respondents perceive violent behavior as something of daily life, and clarified that if Mexico were a place with less impunity, according to the participants, the legal order would be more respected than in other Latin American nations.

He said that the research carried out in Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, Mexico and the Dominican Republic) sought to evaluate the attitude of people in front of topics such as robbery, bribery, loyalty, use of substances (alcohol and drugs), respect for social order, violence and fraud, which to some extent have become acceptable.

He stressed that in Mexico 27% of the evaluated companies affirmed that their employees could rob in the organization, which implies serious losses and repercussions in the companies, making relevant and necessary the implementation of norms within them.

In turn, he added, Bolivia is the country that most justifies the theft, since 34.26% of the respondents consider that in many scenarios this act can be little serious.

He said that in the South American nation, more than 50% of respondents think that there are places where it is impossible to fix something without bribery, and 48% were willing to give money to a policeman in exchange for a ticket to forgive them.

This shows the deterioration of public institutions, fostering a culture of corruption that accepts and replicates this type of act, he said.

Although the causes of corruption respond to different patterns in each Latin American country, they all have a common denominator and is the relationship with public power, Sentíes concluded.
