Mazatlan: Sin.- Up to 50 percent of the dairy products that are sold in Mazatlan are made with formulas or derivatives, which hits directly to producers in the south that meet the quality standards, said Antonio Lizárraga Rivera.

The president of the Union of Cheesemakers in Mazatlan said that even so many of them make efforts to stay in the local market and offer good quality products, even when it costs more and more to produce milk.

“The cheese that is being consumed, 50 percent is pure formula here in Mazatlan, and that is what we have been fighting, we hope that this government will act, because if they want to make cheese with formulas, it’s fine, but that they should be required to label them as formula cheese “.

The situation is increasingly critical, said the leader of cheesemakers in the Mazatlan, where there are even producers who, due to the low profitability of the business in the production of milk, have already sold their heads of cattle or closed them to the ranches themselves.

“There are already several ranches that have sold all the cattle, look I have knowledge go three ranches that already sold all their cattle, we are talking about 150 cows calved in production, so far this year.”

Lizárraga Rivera pointed out that many of the producers close ranks and look for ways to not let their customers go, always seeking to offer affordable prices, since the purpose is to avoid harming more businesses that are engaged in this work of dairy.
