51.4%, in favor of helping migrants in their passage through Mexico: Consulta Mitofsky

A survey conducted by Consulta Mitofsky on the caravan revealed that slightly more than half of the interviewees agreed to help the Central American migrants who currently cross the country to reach the northern border with the hope of entering the United States.

Titled Caravana Migrante, the exercise indicates that 51.4% spoke for helping and protecting Central American migrants as they passed through the country. On the contrary, one in three respondents said that migrants should not be helped, and that they should be pressured to return to their countries of origin.

By socioeconomic level, support for migrants is presented at its highest level among Mexicans whose status is low (55.1% in favor). Meanwhile, the rejection reaches its highest level, with 36.3%, among Mexicans with a middle class level. If the place of residence is considered as the main factor, the people who live in rural areas show greater support to the migrants (61.2 percent).
