A serious message of uncertainty is sent to international markets, investors and citizens, say, entrepreneurs.

The president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), Juan Pablo Castañón , noted that the cost of cancellation of the New Airport in Texcoco will be between 100 and 120 billion pesos , in addition to which 46 thousand direct and indirect jobs will be lost .

At a press conference, he indicated that the businessmen express their rejection of the decision to cancel the work, as well as the method used to take it.

He noted that the decision of the president-elect, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to cancel the work and begin studies to build two tracks in the current Santa Lucia Air Base, sends a serious message of uncertainty to international markets, investors and citizens .

This, by not complying with commitments of the Mexican State and breaking the current legal framework, since a citizen consultation has been held outside the legal framework and without guarantees of impartiality, neutrality, and representativeness.

Which, added the representative of the business sector in the country, can not be a basis for reversing a State decision since it represents a high degree of technical complexity, which had already been studied for more than 20 years.

He recalled that “three weeks before July 1, the position of candidate AMLO in meetings with the private sector was that as long as there were no public resources, they would support the continuity of the Texcoco project, reviewing the costs and reviewing the transparency of the contracts. “

On the part of the business sector, “we continue to think that Texcoco is the option that gives us the most sustainability in the long term”. However, “this does not mean that our dialogue with the incoming government is undermined.” In that same sense, he ruled out a “rupture” between businessmen and the next government on this issue.

He noted that “we need to know what are the characteristics of cancellation, contracts, payments, and costs to be had. Not only are the direct contracts of the bids on the airport, but they are also the public policy that Mexico as a State is sending as a communication to the world, that long-term projects can be interrupted halfway and that seems serious to us and has to be indicated”.
