After being closed for a few hours as a precautionary measure during the passage of hurricane ‘Willa’, the Durango-Mazatlan highway was re-opened on the early morning hours of Wednesday October 24.

The Federal Police notified the opening of this important inter-state road, after the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT), as well as the State Government decided to temporarily close the road to avoid risks due to the extremely dangerous weather conditions. On Tuesday October 23, at 2:30 p.m., the highway was closed to traffic.

The governor of Durango, José Rosas Aispuro Torres, posted the following message on his Twitter account: “I inform you that currently the Supercarretera Durango – Mazatlan is open to circulation. For those who wish to travel in that direction, they can do it normally“.

Minutes after the announcment of the re-opening of traffic on the interstate to Mazatlan, the SCT detailed in a report the presence of haze in the mountainous area as well as a landslide at kilometer 120, before reaching the Coscomate toll booth.
