The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (Sagarpa) estimated that nearly 45,000 hectares of agricultural crops in Sinaloa had been completely lost and that there were partial losses in 9,920 hectares.
According to the federal agency, the losses were due to the floodings caused by the high rainfall left by the passage of the tropical depression 19-E and hurricane Rosa.
The municipalities most affected by this phenomenon in the entity, according to a first balance, are Ahome, El Fuerte, Choix, Guasave, Sinaloa de Leyva, Angostura, Salvador Alvarado, Mocorito, Badiraguato, Navolato, and Culiacan, which have plantations of soy, sesame, peanut, corn, vegetables, and watermelon.
The municipalities of Sonora that were affected are: Alamos, Bácum, Benito Juárez, Cajeme, Empalme, Etchojoa, Guaymas, Hermosillo, Huatabampo, San Ignacio, Rio Muerto, and Quiriego.
Even though the damages are still unknown, due to a lack of access to the area, Sagarpa stated that the towns of Alamos and Ciudad Obregon had been the most affected, and that the worst affected crops had been sorghum, sesame, corn, bean and melons.
Authorities expect to conduct a more detailed damage census in the coming days to have the necessary information to support the affected agricultural producers.
