Mazatlan, Sinaloa.- Through the ” Alimenta ” campaign , the Food Bank of Mazatlán collects non-perishable products to support those who lack food .

There are 30 colonies, which BAM personnel, volunteers and elements of the Navy travel street by street to receive the support of the citizens.

Little by little, the staff that participates in the collection receives the help of the citizens, which is reflected in the delivery of soups and canned.

BAM HISTORY

Banco de Alimentos Mazatlan was born in 2003 on the initiative of a group of ladies from the Mazatleca society that decided to give support to the families most in need of food in the municipality. Food rescue work begins for distribution to families in the port.

In 2008, the institution began a process of professionalization, as the new board of trustees integrated only by entrepreneurs and businesswomen in the region.

The operation in the different areas is formalized, the diversification of projects begins and the search for donors for the execution of new programs that attack, be it some root cause, or a consequence of the problem of food deprivation.

The community work allowed the BAM team to identify opportunities for linked action for a more integral attention to the vulnerable families that are served. Then the services begin for health and nutrition issues, as well as the development of capacities, seeking self-sufficiency in our beneficiaries.

At BAM we have developed a special awareness program where we inform agricultural producers, entrepreneurs, teachers, students, families, children, government and community in general about: the existence of a real problem of food shortage and hunger in the south of Sinaloa; the impact of food waste on a large scale and at the household level; the most accessible ways to contribute and be part of the solution.

With the recent implementation of the Institutional Strengthening Plan that validated the relevance of each of our programs, the next step is the growth in facilities that allow us to increase the population reach (which today reaches an average of 8,000 people per month ) and food for it.
