From April 26 to 29 next year, thousands of people around the world will take to the streets to portray the wildlife of their cities, and the Mazatlecos are already preparing to position their municipality among the most “environmentally responsible” worldwide.

Mazatlan accepts the challenge. And the city gets ready for the most naturalistic marathon of all. Four intense days in which professional and amateur photographers will come out with their cameras and cell phones to portray the wildlife they find around them. From a flower, a fungus, a beetle, a snake, to the most exotic of birds or mammals.

Hand in hand with the environmentalist Francisco Farriols Sarabia and the Faculty of Marine Sciences, Mazatlán has completed the registration to compete in the City Nature Challenge 2019, an international friendly contest of nature observers, united through the Virtual Naturalist community (iNaturalist ), dedicated to the registration and identification of species.

“With this initiative, Mazatlan seeks to position itself on the world map as a destination for flora and fauna observation, with ecotourism options beyond sun and beach activities”, explained Farriols, whose reservation within the city was certified by the National Commission of Biodiversity (Conabio) as a natural area voluntarily destined for conservation.

“It is an opportunity to promote Mazatlan internationally, but above all to create awareness for caring for the environment and wildlife in our region, which has a lot to offer,” he said.
