Only 4 out of 100 Mexicans earn more than 13,000 pesos a month: Inegi

Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Chiapas, concentrate fewer people with incomes above 5 minimum wages.

Only 4 out of every 100 workers in Mexico City receive a salary higher than 13,254 pesos per month, that is, more than 5 minimum wages, according to a report from the National Institute of Geography and Statistics (Inegi) corresponding to the second quarter of 2018.

The economically active population of our country is 55.6 million people, which represents 59.6%, 1.8 million more people than the previous year when there was a total of 54.1 million.

6.7 million Mexicans work in the primary sector, that is, 12.5% of the economically active population, 13.8 million in the secondary sector, which corresponds to 25.6%, and 33 million in the tertiary sector, 63.3%.

Oaxaca, Guerrero and Chiapas, the southeastern region of the country, concentrate fewer people with incomes above 5 minimum wages. In Guerrero, 86.8% earn 3 minimum wages, equivalent to 7,952 pesos per month, in Oaxaca 83.3% and Chiapas 88%.
