The elected Mayor of Mazatlan plans to implement innovative public security model

The elected Mayor of Mazatlan, Luis Guillermo Benítez Torres, works on a structural model for the prevention of violence and the reduction of crime and thus reduce the insecurity indexes in the port.

Benitez Torres added that to put together the right strategies and have capable personnel, he met with the future federal Secretary of Public Safety, Alfonso Durazo Montaño.

Given the situation of violence in Mazatlan, the elected mayor, points out that the issue of public safety will be a priority for his administration, and his multi-disciplinary team is carefully analyzing the profiles of those who aspire to be head of the public security secretariat during his term.

He said that it plans to implement in Mazatlan a public security model of proven results in other parts of the country, which among other things, will benefit the working conditions of the police officers.

“El Químico” (as he is known by locals), pointed out that the high-impact events that have occurred in the municipality lately are worrisome and may lead to the Tourist Cruises banning the port again, which could affect significantly the economy of a large part of the Mazatlan population, who depend on the Tourism Industry.
