Laboratory in Tampico closed for illegal tests of COVID-19

Authorities of the State Commission for Protection Against Sanitary Risks in Tamaulipas closed two private laboratories of the same company ” Lister Laboratories ” located in Tampico. The reason: practiced without proper certification, testing the COVID- 19, which, to say the state Health Department “leads to professional irresponsibility because its results also were reported to the Ministry of Health of Tamaulipas, as sets the standard for the national security problem caused by the coronavirus ”.

According to the same testimony of those responsible for the place, 80 tests had been carried out in said laboratories at a cost of 2,300 pesos per test, when the health sector exams are free. Laboratory “Lister” does not appear on the federal government list of laboratories with recognition by the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference. No tests carried out in the Lister laboratory had reported any results to the Ministry of Health and the people who came to take the test do not have official recognition.

In the particular case of a person from Tampico who claimed to be a carrier of the virus, the agency said, and it was under the supervision of the state health sector after undergoing the COVID-19 medical exams. The illegal practice of this laboratory was detected after a person of the female sex from Tampico published a video on the network demonstrating that he was carrying the virus. Of that, the State Health Secretariat had no record.

The Jalisco prosecutor, Gerardo Octavio Solís Gómez, reported that two laboratories that offered tests to detect COVID-19 were closed: one of them operated in a house, while the other subrogated the service.

The businesses are the Puerta Hierro laboratory, located in Andares, and the one who was subrogating the tests is identified as the Clinical Analysis Laboratory. Puerta de Hierro charged 6,500 for the test.

This week the complaint was received at the State Prosecutor’s Office, so that personnel from that agency, the Ministry of Health and the Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks of the State of Jalisco (Coprisjal) went to the place.

There they found that “the laboratory referred to in the subrogation contract was a house-room” together with a local optician.

He said that “in the event of non-compliance with a series of administrative regulations, both laboratories were suspended.”

The head of the Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ), Fernando Petersen mentioned that the Puerta de Hierro laboratory was investigated after the complaint of a young man who lives in the United States, but was visiting in Cuautla.

The Health Secretary asked people who underwent tests at the Puerta de Hierro laboratory more than 15 days ago to contact the agency’s COVID hot-line.

Fernando Petersen reiterated that in Jalisco, there are only three laboratories that are certified to carry out the coronavirus detection tests: the State Laboratory, the IMSS Western Biomedical Research Center, and the Clinical Pathology Unit.

Guidelines for conducting a coronavirus test

This guideline establishes that to carry out a COVID-19 test, the person must be considered as a “suspicious case “, which is defined as:

Person of any age who presents with mild or severe acute respiratory disease and who has any of the following antecedents spends 14 days from the onset of symptoms: -Have been in contact with a confirmed case or under investigation at COVID-19, or -Travel or stay in countries with local community transmission of COVID-19.

The possible suspicious case must be determined by a first-contact doctor, who will question the person presenting the symptoms and, if necessary, prescribe the test. This should indicate to the patient the precautionary measures to be taken until the results are obtained.
